Crystal harbour views, freshly shucked oysters and Chopard’s stunning heritage yacht made for the perfect vantage point to experience the start of the 74th annual Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2018.

Dubbed the Mille Miglia with an Australian twist, the Swiss jewellery company hosted its intimate annual event on its sleek 1980s yacht, where Sydney’s top VIPS witnessed the start of the iconic Boxing Day race. Where better to view it than from the water itself?

Sweeping across the Sydney Harbour for its second year was SY Chopard. The impressive sailing yacht, which only fits under the Sydney Harbour Bridge by two metres, has been around the world six times and rumoured to have carried over 300 cases of Dom Perignon on her first voyage.

Sporting passion runs through the Swiss watchmakers’ 158-year-old history, seen prominently with its bold role in the famous Mille Miglia. Continuing its admiration for sport, Chopard treats its most exclusive partners with front row seats to one of Australia’s biggest sailing events.

As the only brand in the city with a private sailing yacht, flowing bottles of Champagne and an onboard chef kept the party of 40 in jovial spirits.

With family at the core of Chopard’s identity, the company invited lucky guests to indulge in its unique tradition alongside their own families to witness the start of the 630 nautical mile race.

Less than two days after leaving New South Wales waters, Wild Oats XI was the first to cross the finishing line in Hobart, Tasmania, claiming its ninth win in one of the world’s most spectacular sailing events.
