Vacheron Constantin reveal striking new faces on ultra-thin timepieces

At 8.1mm thick, Vacheron Constantin’s Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin is one of the sleekest and most complicated sports watches on the market today.

Vacheron Constantin

Vacheron Constantin is renowned for its highly traditional watchmaking prowess, which has evolved into a signature aesthetic for its modern timepieces. As one of the world’s oldest watchmakers (founded in 1755), the Swiss luxury name continues to drive the industry forward and its latest variants of the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin are perfect examples.

Unveiled earlier this year at Watches & Wonders 2020, the two models feature updated dials for the popular Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin – though the original dial was already an attractive design in its own right. Now it enjoys a little more flair.

Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin

For the first time, the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin sees the option of a sleek blue dial or a skeletonised dial paired to an elegant 41.5mm 18K pink gold case. As far as dimensions go, everything else remains unchanged including the watch’s thickness, which remains at a very subtle 8.1mm for a beautiful profile on the wrist.

On the blue dial version there are three subdials depicting the day, date and month, along with a moon phase indicator at the 6 o’clock marker. Matching 18K pink gold adorns the luminous hands and markers, making for a very classy contrast against the deep blue dial.

The 1120 QP/1 movement affords hours, minutes and the aforementioned moon phase function, holding a power reserve of 40 hours.

The skeletonised version of the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin offers an even bolder approach to the formula. The movement has been slightly varied, this time using the 1120 QPSQ/1 in order to accommodate the openwork design, which is viewable from both sides.

The skeletonised components are entirely handcrafted including satin brushing, bevelling, sunburst application and polishing. Innovative watchmaking techniques even extend to the skeletonised caseback’s rotor, which achieves an anthracite grey finish in the shape of the Maltese Cross – Vacheron Constantin’s logo.

Both versions of the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin watches feature three included strap options. Owners can choose between the case’s matching pink gold bracelet, a dark blue alligator strap or dark blue textured rubber strap.
