Back in the simpler, pre-pandemic days in 2019, two thirds of adults globally reported being happy, according to the Global Happiness Study by Ipsos Global Advisor. By mid 2020 a study by NORC at the University of Chicago found people in the US were the unhappiest they’ve been in almost 50 years.
So what exactly makes people happy?
Looking at Finland – the four-time happiest country in the world, it offers things like a well-functioning democracy, free education and healthcare and makes work–life balance a high priority.
While happiness is subjective, psychologists have found close relationships, an enjoyable job or pastime and helping others are the general pillars to being happy.
