From 8–14 April this year, Milan will welcome the world to Design Week.
Two key events define the week: Salone del Mobile Milano and Fuorisalone, which premier the latest trends and herald a tidal wave of events, exhibitions and presentations.
Started spontaneously in the early 1980s thanks to the will of companies working in the furnishing and industrial design sectors, Fuorisalone continues to expand into sectors including automotive, technology, telecommunications, art, fashion and food.
Exhibiting this year is high-end Danish consumer electronics company Bang & Olufsen. Its ‘93 Years of Magic’ installation will take visitors on a guided tour through the brand’s journey from the past to the present.
Bang & Olufsen has worked closely with museums and collectors to curate a retrospective exhibition of products that shaped the brand’s reputation for matching innovation with beautiful sound. It will also debut a new magically moving object that pairs high craftsmanship with advanced technology.
The past: 93 Years of Magic
It all started in 1925, when engineers Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen began a modest production of radios in the attic of the Olufsen family home in Denmark.
The first Bang & Olufsen product saw the light of day two years later. Since then, the brand has steered the way for beautiful sound and unwavering attention to detail.
The brand’s atmospheric Fuorisalone installation will display a diverse, yet characteristic body of work, ranging from 1930s classics such as the Hyperbo 5G Steel and Beolit 39 bakelite radio, to the iconic designs of the 1970s and 1980s including the Beogram 4000 record player and Beosound 9000 sound system.
The present: Magic Reimagined
As visitors near the end of the installation, they are physically led towards Bang & Olufsen’s present collections.
In this space, the brand debuts a new experience: a choreographed performance of magical movement, acoustic clarity and human-centric design.
Sound, craftsmanship and design merge in this visionary Bang & Olufsen product as experiences from the past meet visions for the future.
On display will be Bang & Olufsen’s entire new collection, including the all-new Beosound Edge wireless speaker and the limited-edition Anniversary Bronze Collection of multi-room speakers.
