Shangri-La Group, Asia–Pacific’s leading luxury hotelier, has recently entered the craft beer sector with the launch of its first standalone restaurant – Shang Brew – on Mainland China, in collaboration with Chinese state-owned steel company Shougang Group.
The new venue, which opened beginning of October, serves a variety of craft beers brewed in-house, as well as local and international influenced dishes.
The brewery can accommodate up to 245 diners, with various spaces on offer, including high tables, lounge seating, outdoor settings and two private dining rooms. Shang Brew also features a stage in the lounge area to host live performances and entertainment.

“Moving on, we look forward to the opening of Shangri-La Hotel Shougang Park next year and delivering new experiences inspired by the hundred years’ glory of Shougang and the 50 years’ Asian Hospitality of Shangri-La.”
Adjacent to the signature Shougang No. 3 Blast Furnace, Shang Brew boasts views of both Xiuchi Lake and Shijingshan Hill.
Designed by Wilson Associates, the brewery features a contemporary and refined design, while drawing parallels between steel manufacturing processes and an industrial aesthetic – a tribute to the history of Shougang Park.
The 250-square-metre brewery inside the restaurant is equipped with high-quality machinery, including a mash/lauter tun, reverse osmosis technology, a fermentation cellar and heat exchanger.
Shangri-La’s brewers handpick hops and spices from around the world and incorporate these ingredients to create six signature brews: Gang Pi, 1919, Wrought Iron, Ingot IPA, Cold Roller and 1888°. The brewery is also offering seasonal and one-off beers.
In terms of dining options, the restaurant serves more than 40 dishes reflecting both the Eastern and Western influences. The team draws inspiration from the industrial traditions of Shougang and have developed Shang Brew signature dishes such as the Beijing-style meat skewers Gang Chuan’r and the Signature Burger.
“Autumn is the season of harvest,” says Liang Jie, Shougang Group’s Deputy General Manager. “As Shougang’s new premium dining establishment, Shang Brew is an important step forward in our partnership with Shangri-La Group.
“By working together, we have created this unprecedented culinary experience, enabling guests to immerse in a unique ambience with the serenity of a lakeside view set amid the heritage industrial estate,” Liang comments.
