Porsche has revealed the 2020 Porsche Macan GTS and it’s the German carmaker’s sportiest variant of the compact luxury SUV to date.
The latest model is underpinned by a more powerful engine, performance-oriented chassis and enhanced equipment to make the Porsche people mover one of the most thrilling cars in its segment.
A new engine
The 2020 Macan GTS comes powered by a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 which cranks out a healthy 375 horsepower (that’s a bump of 15 horsepower over last year) and is mated to a PDK dual-clutch transmission. Maximum torque is 383 lb-ft, up 14 lb-ft from last year.
“The Porsche Macan GTS can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds, or to the same speed in 4.5 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package, and on to a top track speed of 162 mph,” according to Porsche.
Brakes boosted for safety
The braking power of the Porsche Macan GTS is enhanced with some serious stoppers. They are 360 x 36 millimeters at the front and 330 x 22 millimeters at the rear. If that’s not enough stopping power, there are optional Porsche Surface Coated Brakes with tungsten carbide coating clocking in at 390 x 38 millimeters at the front, 356 x 28 millimeters out back.
A sporty eye catcher
Visually, the new Porsche Macan GTS oozes its sporty credentials. The standard Sport Design package with new front and rear trim and striking side skirts lends the car a characteristically aggressive appearance.
The front fascia features black painted elements – a distinguishing feature of all Porsche GTS models. The LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) and the three-dimensional rear lights with LED light bar are also darkened. The LED headlights can be optionally ordered in black with PDLS Plus. The lowered chassis meanwhile rides on 20-inch RS Spyder Design wheels in Satin Black to offset the red brake callipers. Even the trim strips in High Gloss Black help to emphasise the high-performance appearance of the latest Macan. The rear end gains a diffuser and blacked-out tailpipes of the standard sport exhaust system.
Seats you want to sit in
Premium materials such as Alcantara adorns the seat centre panels, the centre console armrests and door panels. This is contrasted with brushed aluminium to make for a sporty and elegant aesthetic of the new Macan GTS.
The multifunction sport steering wheel is wrapped in leather as standard, as are the exclusive GTS sport seats featuring eight-way adjustment and pronounced side bolsters for stable support during dynamic cornering.
The optional GTS interior package includes leather with Carmine Red or Chalk stitching plus additional Alcantara features, a BOSE Surround Sound system, and the new smartphone tray with wireless charging. Park Assist including Surround View, a heated windshield, and ioniser are available as optional equipment to improve comfort.
The 2020 model is expected to arrive at dealers in the Northern Hemisphere summer with a start price of US$71,300 excluding US$1,350 for delivery, processing and handling.
