GMR Group is one of the fastest growing infrastructure enterprises in India, with projects that cover transport, energy, and urban infrastructure. Srinivas Bommidala has been a member of the board since 1996, and is currently GMR Group’s Chairman, Airports. He chats with The CEO Magazine about the incredible growth and success of the group.
The CEO Magazine: First, can you tell me a little bit about your professional background?
Srinivas: I joined the family business at a fairly young age. Post graduation, I decided to venture out on my own, and my first independent business foray was in the bottling space for a leading aerated beverages manufacturer. After working across diverse businesses in the food and agricultural space for nearly a decade, I joined GMR Group as one of the founding directors in 1996.
For the past two decades I, along with my family members, have been responsible for shaping the overall strategy of the organisation. Over the years, I have held various positions across the group’s ventures in airports, power, highways, and urban infrastructure.
Since 2011, I have been responsible for the group’s airports portfolio, and today we rank among the top five airport developers in the world. Our airport portfolio comprises Delhi International Airport, Hyderabad International Airport, as well as Mactan–Cebu Airport in the Philippines. GMR Airports has also developed a presence in the airport value chain with investments in duty free, air cargo, as well as maintenance, repair, and overhaul. In addition to airports, the commercial property development at New Delhi and Hyderabad airports also comes under my purview.
