Charles spent 27 years at Control Risks, the international, specialist risk consultancy. Roles at the firm included Managing Partner of the Moscow office and Co-Director of the Global Issues Team within its geopolitical risk consultancy. His first book, ‘Zero Sum: The Arc of International Business in Russia’ will be published in the UK in November 2024 and the United States in March 2025. Prior to his work at Control Risks, Charles was a reporter at ‘The Moscow Times’ in Russia and ‘The Miami Herald’ in Florida. He is a fluent Russian speaker and holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and an MA from the Russian Research Center (now the Davis Center) at Harvard University.
